Crayons and Evangelism

Today I had my evaluative meeting with Amanda Ross, Saint Paul student pastor at Polo and Cowgill. There was a picture of Amanda and Steve Cox back in early November here on my blog. I just love Amanda...this is her first appointment, and we talked about how things were going at church and school. One of the goals she has is to help the churches become more involved in ministries with children in their respective communities. Amanda loves working with children and youth. In fact, she told me, and then showed me, she carries little plastic bags in her purse with five or six crayons in them to share with kids when she sees them. I thought at first she meant kids just at church. I was wrong. She told me a story of how recently she was at a coffee shop someplace and she noticed a mom who had met a friend there to visit, and had brought her young child. The kid did not have anything to do, but look through an adult magazine. That didn't seem right to Amanda, so she went over and gave the child a packet of crayons and even a copy of the children's bulletin from last Sunday at her church for the kid to draw on. Amanda is really excited about the evangelism class she is taking right now---she and Jamie Gehrke (another of my fine student pastors) are giving a presentation on Bonhoeffer's The Cost of Discipleship this week and she was reading it when I got to Starbucks where I met her for the evaluation today. I think it is really neat that they are reading The Cost of Discipleship for an evangelism class--Steve Maskar from the Board of Discipleship is the instructor.

Anyway, I think crayons and Bonhoeffer are both pretty good signs that Amanda Lamb is heading in the right direction. High marks, all around.

PS I DID check with Amanda before I put this here. Thanks ALR!

This is a really cool story....
Tell this great pastor to keep up the good work and never stop caring. This is what we all need to be about: caring and learning ways to share the love of God in our culture.

PS.You are much smarter than me if you see a connection to 'what's his name' and 'colors'.
