Folks have been asking about my boy Caleb. Here he is, the way he looks tonight. He is right now SO in to hip hop---lyrics, beats, etc. He has a new Ipod and just now he came in, put one of the ear buds in his ear and one in mine, and then read me some hip hop lyrics he has been working on. Very passionate. Very deep. Somewhat esoteric. He did a major thing on the meaning of Messiah. Pretty good. He explained to me that the way that poets work is that they right down their raw feelings (see the journal) then work at it and then type it. After I took this picture, he told me that what he really wants to do with the hip hop is spread goodness and love--(the following is my paraphrase) that although the lyrics are often raw and even a little cynical that what this music/poetry does is to link people together in the commonness of the emotions that are described in them. He just wants to be a force to spread the unity and bonds that come from being real. Wow.
My boy Caleb's eyes are about the same. And here I do something that I will not often do--dis publicly a company we are extremely unhappy with...America's Best contacts and glasses. It has now been four weeks since we took Caleb's glasses in for repair. He cannot see the board in math class without glasses. His reading is more difficult and life in general is harder for him. Four weeks. I complained this week to the district manager and he says that they should be in "tomorrow or the next day". Since these are "free" replacements because we are within a plan we bought, there isn't really much we can do but wait. He is using a pair of glasses he picked up some place that help him some (he wears these in the picture). Caleb seems fairly happy these days. Our scare right now is that his school Kansas City Academy is in dire financial straits and is threatening to close next year, his senior year. Apparently parents are not paying up on tuition (yes it's a private school..in the Loretto tradition)
BTW this has been a very busy week--interviewing the first full timers Tues night, cabinet Wednesday, Conference nominations today--twas good to see all of you I saw this week. Keep the faith all, keep the faith

I'm happy to have discovered your blog with a search for "Methodist". Thanks for all the sharing, it's wonderful. My own blog efforts are new and small but so far lots of fun.
