A Reminder

This has been a day when I have experienced so much blog material it is hard to know where to start. I attended Platte Woods and Paradise this morning and heard two very different and very wonderful sermons. And this evening, we had our annual "student pastors and PPRC chairs plus one other church leader" meeting. Nine of the ten student pastors who attend Saint Paul School of Theology were there. I actually talked about and answered questions about charge conferences for nearly 45 minutes. I never have to work to get these folks to talk...

At the end of our sharing and after we ate supper together, we celebrated the reaffirmation of baptismal vows. Each person received a small glass pebble that I asked them to place somewhere they would often see, and to remember that each person baptized has the same first name---"precious"--and I don't mean like Gollem. I mean that we are claimed by a God whose name is Love and we need to remember that always.

A pretty cool evening, and some very cool student pastors, I must say. And PPRC chairs and other lay persons as well. Nothing too fancy, but very real and full of love. As a closing prayer, I read them the words, I believe by David Haas, from the hymn You are Mine. Here they are. The song is found in The Faith We Sing:

Do not be afraid, I am with you

I have called you each by name

Come and follow Me I will bring you home

I love you and you are mine

Enough said.
