Our Saturday Event!

Saturday is a very big day in the life of the Heartland North District! I am tres excited...planning large learning events is my kinda thing.

Saturday will be our Good Ideas for Small Churches event at Lexington UMC, featuring Dr. Shannon Jung from Saint Paul who has been marvelously helpful as keynoter on Reaching the Rural Poor. That's him in the pic. There will be five workshops repeated twice, on more ideas for reaching the rural poor; revitalizing worship; connecting with your local school; building spiritual passion in your congregation for reaching out; and assessing your community's needs. Dr. Robert Martin also of Saint Paul will be leading the last one.

I am SO gratified that between 145 and 150 have registered which includes 28 of our district churches. Four other districts have persons attending as well. This could be a day that we look back on in the future and point to as one of great significance in the HN district.

We have had many folks working on this event and I don't have all the names of the committee members in front of me right now so I won't start listing folks in case I leave someone out. Lexington and Rev. Collum are being extremely helpful. We have a great band coming to play, Wright Choice. Here is the URL to the initial piece we used for publicity:

Today I worked at the computer as much as I could and got the piece I had promised to have finished today 50 Good Ideas for Worship in the Small and Rural and had a blast putting it together. I will publish it here when I get it in final form. I actually finally stopped at 56 ideas.

I'll take pictures if I can and post here as well after Saturday.
