The Keystone Coffeehouse--A REALITY!!!

That coffeehouse thing that was in the Circuit Rider Article a couple of months ago---guess what??? THEY DID IT!!! Over $100,000 and a lot of hard work by the two men in the picture, Galen Lif, the young architect, and Don James, a "son of the church" who had the vision. I was priviledged to be at Broadway UMC for the first time since I left a year ago, for the going away party for Penny Ellwood (she has become the sole pastor of a student charge!) and I was pleased as punch (or should I say "mocha", and a very tasty one I received today at that!) to see what has happened to the Keystone chapel, the original structure of the church---bringing new out of old, holding fast to the vision that the orginal members of the church had, to be a gathering place that is explicitly Christian, that is what this is about, and this surely is one of the important facets of the emergent conversation that feel so "right" to me. The old stained glass windows, you can best see in the picture of Don handing me the mocha.
On another topic, some of you readers already know this---and it sounds a bit crazy, especially to ME since it is only five days away---but I am moving residences, back to the city, to the Valentine area. The kids need me more, I need the kids, and this will simplify the back-and-forth between Philip and I in terms of co-parenting. We have never been this far apart, and it has been a difficult year for me as some of you know. I am so grateful for the district's support. I also have a couple of pics I want to share this week sometime of our Seattle trip. It was a blast!!!
Pray for me!!!

Hi there - loved the pictures of the coffee house. The congregation I serve has kicked around a similar idea, but its never taken off. There is a wonderful congregation (not UM) in seattle called Quest church that is based out of a coffee shop, doing incredible things by God's spirit. I'd love to talk with you more about the "emergent" thing and some dreams hopes calls? i have about ministry and new congregations with in our UM structure. My links and stuff are on my blog.

Hope your have ing a wonderful day!
