Mid Century Modern

Am I the only one, or are there some things about life that just make your soul sing, the reason for which you can't really say? Emergent is like that; so is the Retro Cocktail Hour radio program on the Lawrence NPR station on Saturday nights; Amy Winehouse's voice, and mid century modern architecture. Sometimes in moments of reverie, I wonder if I really am reincarnated from someone my age in the 1950s. I picked up a magazine at Barnes and Noble on the Plaza today that I had never seen before, Atomic Ranch. I already subscribe to Architectural Digest and Modernism. My family is giving me gifts when gift giving is a propos of 195os kitchen stuff for my retirement home, whether it ends up being on Saint Simon's, or I buy a "new" mid century modern condo in KC. Items I have been given include metal canisters, Fiestaware, and an old glass pitcher and juice glasses, with daffodils on them. I have been given some newly-minted but retro looking stuff; other of the stuff is "authentic." I read the editorial in the magazine which asks us to think about which is better---"real" old stuff, which costs a mint and/or which may not be fixable if it is an electrical appliance; or "fake" old stuff, using the spirit of mid century, but made recently and is more usable. Interesting question, I think. How this fits in the emergent conversation, I will let you figure out ;-}.

I have to think more about this, but I think our memories, good or bad, are very important to our lives and our faith. TY.....
