Some Bit Bytes and a Vid

--Have finished Anne Tyler's Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant and dearly loved it. I remember hearing several years ago the pastor 0f Chicago Temple use this as a basis for a sermon and I meant to read it before. I recommend it if you haven't read it.
--I have been a bit amused when I watch Baseball Tonight that when the anchor guy sees an especially good play he uses this phrase "Fill your horn with oil and go" or something close to that...of course we Biblical scholars know that is Samuel who is being told to go to Jesse to anoint one of his sons as king. Tonight Buck Showalter was one of the other guys at the desk, and as a highlight was played and the anchor guy used that phrase again, Buck said "sometime you have to explain that to me" and the anchor guy (whose name I really should know) kind of mumbled something like this: "well it's actually from I Samuel 16... but let's go on"....which somehow struck me as remarkable...they not only are quoting scripture but also book and chapter...on ESPN???
---Speaking of baseball, here is my favorite Cardinals commercial of this season:

I think this could somehow be used as a sermon illustration...anybody care to suggest in what context? ... and hush about the the HGH...it was prescribed by his doc. So there. And one of the joys of renewal leave is that I can watch lots of baseball...
----And speaking of sermon illustrations, I heard the senior pastor at Old Mission UMC (very nice traditional service) use AMY WINEHOUSE as an illustration....he talked about how everyone (including celebrities like Amy) are Romans 7 people, but we have a Romans 8 God. I liked it. (note to self: Rick Ankiel is a Romans 7 person, just like me...I do the things I would not do...and don't do the things I should...maybe me more than Rick on the last part....)
---And the condo is really lookin' good. I will get some pictures posted as soon as I get all the pictures up, etc.
----I really do need to write a substantive entry on where I am with emergent right now, since that is why I started blogging.

Susan,
I thought I left a reply yesterday, but something must have gone wrong. I like hearing about what you're reading. Anne Tyler is one of my favorites too! Hope the "moving in" is going well.
