Driving on the Plaza is always a hoot--and often a toot..more often a toot, really. Living two blocks north of Unity Temple on the Plaza gives me lots of opportunity to know this is true. And there are unwritten rules about driving and pedestrians on the Plaza. If there are no stoplights at an intersection, the driver is to stop if he/she sees a pedestrian wishing to cross the street. It burns me when drivers don't do it, and to heck with the drivers in back of me when I do. I feel as if I am obeying the rules, unwritten though they may be, and helping a poor (even though she has Valentino bag in one hand and an Ann Taylor bag in the other) needy pedestrian by doing that.
However, the last few days, I have been driving around the Plaza and everywhere else I go with the windows down and my left arm hanging out (on the interstate I always drive in the leftest lane because I drive fast and also so I won't be dismembered by a six wheeler). And, most excitingly, I have been playing my Marty Stuart and the Fabulous Superlatives album REALLY LOUD as to shake the windshields and perhaps offend the other drivers around me. It's so GOOD!!! that I don't worry about a cop stopping me (can they stop you for noise, even if you have a United Methodist symbol window cling on the back?) or even if some twenty-something looks at me, sees a mature (?) woman and has an incredulous look on his face. I don't worry and I don't care because that the SOULS' CHAPEL album I'm listening to---gospel music. It's a win win win thing for me--I get to feel the wind in my quirky hair, hear Marvelous Marty, AND evangelize at the same time. YIPPEE! Thank you Mr. Toyota for windows, Mr Stuart for the rockin' gospel, and Jesus, that I have Someone I want the world to hear about!
PS I found a pretty standard picture of Marty but it is not downloading, so alas a pic-less blog. I wish I could have found a "picture of Marty Riding on Country Club Plaza with the Windows Down" but no such luck. YouTube has a video of "There's a Rainbow at the End of Every Storm" and "Get Up Outta that Ground" which are a couple years old but great.
PPS I did find a picture proabaly a few years old of Marty sitting ON a car..so I uploaded it.
